ABOUT ELLENBROOK
In 1991 a joint venture was formed under the name of Ellenbrook Joint Venture - between the Department of Housing and Works and Morella Pty Ltd.
Ellenbrook Joint Venture had a vision to design and develop a new community, a self- sustainable community, all developed in phases called villages. Ellenbrook was designed around community living with many open park areas for families to come together and socialise.
Located in the Swan Valley region, Ellenbrook is situated north east of Perth CBD approx a 35 minute drive from the city and then, approx 15 minutes from any suburb with shopping facilities.
This was unusual for Perth as Ellenbrook was a significant distance from other suburbs but the vision to become a self-sustainable community was soon to become a reality.
By the year 2012 it is estimated that there will be approx 30,000 residents living within this unique community, spreading over approx 1200 hectares of land.
Ellenbrook will eventually become a satellite city.
This new community named Ellenbrook has become one of Australia's most awarded residential communities, boasting ideas never used before in the design and development.
Currently there are six villages. The first, Woodlake Village, started its construction in 1994, with the first residents moving into their new home in Snow Wood Ave in 1995.
Woodlake Village was designed around Woodlake parkland and lake area. Picturesque with Gazebos overlooking the lake and waterfalls, over the years has hosted many wedding ceremonies.
Woodlake homes were a mixture of cottage blocks with 12 -15 metre frontages with white picket fences to larger block sizes for the larger family home. These homes were to be of a heritage design and colour scheme.
Phase two, The Bridges, homes were of Mediterranean style, no eaves, porticos, light brickwork or full render with dark or terracotta coloured roofs. Once again a beautiful park and lake, Lake Fresca, was created for the residents in The Bridges and in the Pines Retirement Village and Pines Nursing Home.
Phase three saw Coolamon, Aboriginal word for water carrier, the Australiana village with verandahs and zincalume roofs.
Coolamon Oval hosts football, cricket and Little Athletics. Recent additions to this open area are the dog exercise park and the skate park.
Ellenbrook Phase four, Morgan Fields, is located on the south side of Gnangara road, this is where the large blocks and homes are situated, together with a lovely open space and lake.
Phase five, Charlottes Vineyard, and lastly phase six, Malvern Springs was recently opened, the most northern village of Ellenbrook, almost linking up to The Vines. This village was awarded 2008 HIA Greensmart Estate of the Year and Water Efficiency Awards.
Some pre existing woodlands and wetlands, including Conservation Category Wetlands, have been incorporated onto public open space in Charlottes Vineyard and Malvern Springs.
Ellenbrook now has two shopping precincts, the original at Woodlake Village that opened approx in 2000 and the second being in the Town Centre. Ellenbrook is centered on a commercial area called The Shops.
The development of the Town Centre is in its early stages, with new businesses opening. Ellenbrook can boast that the Town Centre contains the largest Woolworths on the state. Earthworks for the new mall wing which will see Big W and a second major supermarket in the shopping centre is underway.
Ellenbrook has 5 primary schools, three state schools and two private.
There are two High Schools, one state, one private with a second private, a Catholic high school currently being constructed, due to open for years 7 & 8 in 2010.
Ellenbrook has medical and dental facilities, banks, real estate agents, vets, sporting groups and amenities, swimming pool, library, restaurants, cafes, childcare, service station, children's water playground, commercial and light industrial area and much more..
Even though Ellenbrook is relatively isolated, bus transport to Midland and Morley is available and also link to Bassendean train station. A journey to the CBD takes approx 40 - 50 minutes.
In the car, take a journey down West Swan Road and Great Northern Highway and experience the famous Swan Valley known for wine, breweries, distilleries, fresh local produce, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, chocolate, nougat..
THIS is Ellenbrook life at its BEST!!!!
